Remains in a state of flux:

My work explores themes of anxiety, stress, depression and how they can be expressed through not only the physical gesture of a piece but also the materials of the work. My sculptures are always either trapped within their domestic scenes or their physical bodies. Windows are the prime route of escape but lead to nowhere. Pipes circling around disappear into walls or end abruptly; sometimes giving gestures towards internal bodily organs. Large ragdoll figures inhabit spaces too. Awkward, disfigured, with copious amounts of yarn hair that constraints them to the surrounding area; swimming in it. Fabric is stretched, pulled, stitched too tight and sometimes leaves holes for the fleshy foam meat to sneak through. This is a nod to the ever relatable and present anxiety that lives around us or inside of us.

I work with a variety of flexible materials like fabrics, foam and yarn because I enjoy the visual effects of something so soft and gentle seeming as fabric being combined with a violent stitch. I also work in ceramics which similarly is something that begins flexible and throughout excruciating circumstances will become structured/rigid. This transition is a concept that I identify with and explore throughout all bodies of my work. Appearing externally soft and flexible but being held together by such harsh lines. Within these pieces there are repeating imagery of domestic scenes, either functional or not, that are pulled from memories of my childhood home or images that I’ve had made up in my head.
